Hi, I’m Mary Patterson, I call my art Studio “Fishchild”.
I am an Artist, Maker, Illustrator, Writer, and a lover of life. I make
art primarily in paint, using Acrylic, Oil, and Watercolor. I also draw
in pencil, ink, and ink wash.

Currently I am working on a new body of paintings to display in art
spaces in the Bay Area and across California and beyond.

I am working with acrylic on canvas, but have also been venturing into
printing on fabric, painting on cardboard, wood and working with papier mache’, and playing around with embroidery. Art books are on the agenda, and the eternal zines and comics projects too.

Fishchild Studio began in the early 2000’s after doing my first Open Studios in San Francisco. I had been paining casually all my life, had been active in my college years studying art history and art studio in college, prior to pausing my education to wander the world. I took up art studio training in my twenties doing several courses in art fundamentals at adult schools, eventually attempting an Art degree at Academy of Art in San Francisco, then continuing on to SF City College to learn Graphic Communication in 2001-04.

I’ve participated in Several SF Artspan Open studios, East Bay Open studios, and joined City Art Collective art co-op where I was an exhibiting member for 12 years in San Francisco. From experience with exhibiting in the Co-op I actively sought and was invited to show with several boutique retail galleries, community Art exhibits, Pop up Gallery spaces, Holiday Art shows, Art fairs and Maker fairs, Alternative gallery spaces, and actual small art galleries, doing solo, two man and group shows, in Petaluma, Oakland, Emeryville, Pasadena, Berkeley and Sacramento. I have tabled twice at Alternative Press Exposition in San Francisco and have hung art at municipal art exhibitions. A LIST of exhibitions can be found BELOW.

I have worked as a commercial illustrator, being hired by private businesses and non profits to produce artwork images for websites, posters, art products, and print collateral such as postcards and invitations, and print on fabric.

I have been commissioned by private collectors to make unique custom designed collaborative artworks for my collectors enjoyment, and am honored to have my works displayed in peoples homes.
